Becoming a Citizen

After leaving the Museum of Natural History, I hailed a cab during the worst possible time. It was rush hour AND President Obama was leaving the White House. It took forever to hail a cab and about thirty minutes to drive a few miles. While getting to know my cab driver, I thought of my 8th graders and their work to explore citizenship and civic identity. This turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of my trip to DC.

  1. I think this is really cool! Having someone just tell you their past, and be open and willing to. The humanity he had to share- his hard times is amazing!!!
