After leaving the Museum of Natural History, I hailed a cab during the worst possible time. It was rush hour AND President Obama was leaving the White House. It took forever to hail a cab and about thirty minutes to drive a few miles. While getting to know my cab driver, I thought of my 8th graders and their work to explore citizenship and civic identity. This turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of my trip to DC.
I think this is really cool! Having someone just tell you their past, and be open and willing to. The humanity he had to share- his hard times is amazing!!!
